Is SNU snus?
SNU is not snus. Snus is a moist tobacco product from Sweden, and selling it is banned in the UK. SNU cans hold tobacco-free nicotine pouches instead: slim white pouches of plant fibre, nicotine and flavouring that sit under your top lip. UK shoppers still search for "SNU snus", and this is what they mean.
The brand is written SNÜ and says it draws on Swedish snus tradition while being made in the EU. In the UK and Ireland it is represented by The Klinsmann Partnership. Our guide to what snus is explains where the word comes from and why nothing sold here contains tobacco leaf.
SNU strengths
SNU prints the nicotine in each pouch on the can, which makes it easy to compare with other brands. The flavour range runs 9mg, 12mg and 18mg per pouch; for scale, a 12mg SNU pouch works out at about 18.4mg per gram. Black Ice is the exception and prints a per-gram figure instead.
| Can | Nicotine per pouch | Our band | Shop the band |
|---|---|---|---|
| SNU 9mg | 9mg | Medium | Medium strength |
| SNU 12mg | 12mg | Strong | Strong |
| SNU 18mg | 18mg | Strong | Strong |
| Black Ice | 60mg per gram on the can | Extra strong | Extra strong |
Our bands count nicotine per pouch: Low 1-6mg, Medium 7-11mg, Strong 12-20mg and Extra Strong 21mg and above. That puts most of the SNU range in the strong band and Black Ice well beyond it. Nicotine is highly addictive, and the 18mg cans hold twice what the 9mg ones do. Nicotine pouch strengths explained covers how per-pouch and per-gram labels relate.
SNU flavours
We list six SNU cans at £3.49 each, covering mint, fruit and citrus. Every flavour except Fresh Mint and Black Ice comes in all three strengths, so you can hold the taste and change the strength.
- Mint and cold: Fresh Mint in 12mg and 18mg, and Black Ice, the menthol-heavy Xtra High can. More in mint pouches.
- Fruit: Grape, Strawberry Kiwi and Triple Mango, which sits with our tropical cans.
- Citrus: Lemon & Lime, alongside the rest of our citrus pouches.
How to use them
Take one pouch, put it under your top lip against the gum, and leave it there. Do not chew it and do not swallow it. Most people keep a pouch in for 20 to 60 minutes, then bin it. A tingle in the first few minutes is normal and is stronger on the 18mg and Black Ice cans.
Step by step: how to use nicotine pouches. If SNU is your first brand, start at the lowest figure on the can rather than the highest, and read nicotine pouch side effects for what to expect.
